Who Are We?Cyrano's Place has been promoting the Olympic sport of fencing since 1993. Originally founded at a westside YMCA, the program moved to the Beck Center for the Arts in 1995. In need of bigger facilities, the club moved to our own facilities in Lakewood in 2000.
What Are We?Cyrano's Place is a fencing club offering instruction for beginners as well as advanced students age 5 through Adult in foil, epee and saber.
When Do We Practice?Cyrano's Place offers group classes for different ages throughout the week. Our regular hours are Monday through Thursday, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The club is frequently open earlier for individual lessons. Individual lessons are available at an additional cost. During the summer we offer intensive beginner and advanced camps for ages 12 and over. Please call for dates and pricing information.
Head CoachHead Coach Sara Kass has been involved in the Olympic sport of fencing since 1978. She has earned numerous awards locally, regionally and nationally as well as collegiate in foil, epee and saber. She is the only Northern Ohio female coach with nationally ranked students to her credit. Coach Kass was Great Lakes Section of the United State Fencing Association (USFA) Chair for 10 years, and a member of the National Board of USFA. Her involvement in the sport does not stop there. She has brought national tournaments to Cleveland as well as helped at national and international events on USA shores, such as the 1984 Los Angeles and 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Her enthusiasm for the sport can be seen in her students.
